Some Traditional Chinese Medicine Background on the Ingredients
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, pear is considered a fruit that is most beneficial for coughs. In addition to being delicious, they “generate fluids” and “dissolve phlegm”, making it ideal for treating dry coughs, thirst, and general agitation. Ginger, one of our favorite “warming” ingredients, boasts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial qualities - all of which support immune responses and combat illness. Almonds (in all forms) are mildly warming and sweet in nature. They share similar properties with apricot seeds, one of the key medicinals for treating coughs in Chinese medicine.
Almonds help in moistening the lungs, relieving coughing and panting, making them a perfect complement to pear in this smoothie.
Finally, blueberries are delicious and packed with antioxidants, rounding out this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 Immunity Support sachet
- 6-8 oz almond milk (how thick do you like it?)
- 8 almonds
- 1 pear (we recommend bosc)
- ½ to ¾ inch piece ginger, peeled and sliced (how spicy do you like it?)
- ¾ c frozen blueberries
Directions
Blend the ginger slices with a small amount of the almond milk (this ensures that there will be no large chunks of ginger, and may not be necessary if you have a top of the line blender). Once the ginger is pureed to your liking, add the remaining ingredients and blend into your beverage is smooth and silky.
