A Chinese Medicine Inspired “Quarantini” to Boost Immunity

If you are in the mood for a cocktail during your stay at home order or self-quarantine time, here is a delicious option that will even boost your immunity.  Using our Immunity Support formula that we’re encouraging our readers, friends and family members to incorporate into their wellness routines, now, more than ever,  you can add the wonderful flavors of pear and ginger along with their perceived medicinal qualities.

The Ingredients and their Immunity Boosting Properties

Readers of my recipes know that I pair and prepare western ingredients with their Chinese dietary therapy principles, as Chinese medicine provides some of the earliest “food as medicine” concepts.  This cocktail is no different, particularly when it comes to helping boost immunity (while helping take the edge off a bit).

Two ingredients worth highlighting, given the Chinese dietary therapy benefits:

  • I’ve incorporated pear, which I’ve roasted (see this article on why you should always cook your vegetables for a primer). Pears are highly valued in China, particularly for their perceived support when you have a cough.  Pears are considered “sweat, slightly sour, and cool.”  Moreover, they “generate fluids” but also “dissolve phlegm” so they are ideal if you feel something coming on.
  • Ginger is always great to add: it’s warming properties give a nod to supporting your “middle burner” (a key principle in supporting your digestive health).

The Immunity Support packet holds the immunity boosting special ingredient, the herbal combination, which add a slight bitter note and the sweet balance from the honey powder.  The recipe below incorporates only “half the packet”, giving you a reason to enjoy at least two drinks.

The DAO Labs Quarantini

1 ½ C Ice

2 oz Bourbon

¼ Roasted Pear (roast for 30 min 450 degrees)

¼-1/2 teaspoon ginger puree (microplane or use a grater)

½ DAO Labs Immunity Support packet

½ oz Lemon Juice

Splash Sparkling Wine

Garnish:  Slice pear and crystalized ginger

Instructions

Process bourbon, lemon juice, ginger puree and the half pack of Immunity Support in small food processor or blender until smooth, shake with ice, strain into martini glass and top with a splash of sparkling wine.  Add garnish.

Enjoy.  Keep healthy.
